Building Community and Helping Students with the Greenfield Central School Foundation

Written by Admin | Aug 30, 2024

The Greenfield Central School Foundation (GCSF) was founded to help students succeed in school, in business, and in life by preparing them to be productive members of the workforce and leaders for tomorrow. The GCSF has been connecting the community to the classroom since 1986 by providing extraordinary classroom experiences and preparing students for success.

The foundation’s Wish Upon A Star program provides an opportunity for interested community members to support classrooms by granting specific wishes. The program collects lists of unfunded needs from staff throughout the district and posts them online for review. Members of the community can find an item that matches their interests and provide the necessary funding to assist educators in their learning initiatives. Wish Upon A Star has funded more than $250,000 of staff wishes.

One experience sponsored by the program was “Bug in a Bag” which taught students about the important role insects have on the environment. All of the fourth graders in the school had the opportunity to hold several insects, as well as a tarantula named Rosie. The program supported the students’ study of arthropods and gave them hands-on experience with a variety of bugs.

County Materials supports the Greenfield Central School Foundation in their efforts to build a stronger community and help students succeed in school. We support local organizations through the Sonnentag American Foundation, emphasizing four key service areas: Hunger and Homelessness Support, Veteran and Service Member Support, Sexual Abuse and Domestic Assault Services, and Mentoring and Skills Building.
