City of Marshfield Relies on County Materials’ Manholes for Sanitary Sewer Systems

Keeping sanitary sewers in top condition is a major priority for the City of Marshfield’s Department of Public Works. The department regularly cleans their sanitary sewers and inspects their flowlines. The city has become a picky purchaser of sanitary manholes, only purchasing products that can offer an extremely smooth flowline, according to a spokesperson for the Department of Public Works.

“For several years, the City of Marshfield would require our contractors and street crews installing new or replacement sanitary manholes to grind and polish the precast concrete flowlines so that they would be extremely smooth, comparable to the surface of a new PVC sewer pipe,” the spokesperson shared.

In 2025, the city purchased County Materials’ Prima Base™ Monolithic Manhole Base, a state-of-the-art, high-precision manhole base, designed and manufactured to provide unrivaled quality in sanitary and stormwater management systems. They were pleased to find that Prima Base flowlines were very smooth and didn’t require extra grinding or polishing.

“As an added bonus, when installing the manholes and connecting sewer pipes, the new flowlines allow for PVC sewer pipe to be temporarily inserted into the manhole (beyond the normal ‘shoulder-point’ of the flowline) and then pulled back to easily connect to an adjacent existing sewer pipe,” the spokesperson shared.

Our Prima Base Monolithic Manhole meets ASTM C-478 specifications, with channel, inlets, and outlets manufactured to precise dimensions and locations.

“Kudos to County Materials for setting the new standard for smooth (and versatile) flowlines for the precast concrete sanitary manhole industry," the spokesperson shared.
