Concrete Pipe Week is observed to recognize the significance that reinforced concrete pipe has in building stronger, more resilient communities. There is no better example of the durability of reinforced concrete pipe than the reuse of an 86-year-old pipe in a Calumet County, Wisconsin Highway Project.
The county planned to raise the Highway 114 culvert grade prior to repaving and was pleased to learn the existing concrete pipe had maintained its structural integrity and could be reinstalled. Reinforced concrete pipe has an inherently long service life compared to other pipe materials and reinstalling this pipe reduced the project’s costs substantially.
County Materials was chosen to supply precast end walls for the two-day installation project. The historic reuse of this pipe demonstrates how reinforced concrete pipe exceeds performance expectations and is a reminder that there is reason to celebrate its contributions to making our communities stronger and safer.
