Compass for Kids provides academic and social-emotional support to empower children and families in Springfield, IL. Educational programs are led and adapted by experienced teachers to meet the needs of each child. The organization was founded in 2011 to remove the barriers that underserved children face in after-school and summer programs, including cost, paperwork processes, and transportation.
Each summer, the organization offers Camp Compass to reduce the achievement and opportunity gaps that exist between low-income, underserved children and their higher-income peers. The free summer learning program helps elementary students prevent summer learning loss and improve reading and math skills. Campers also participate in enrichment opportunities, such as field trips. Camp Compass helps more than 400 students each year recognize their full potential and achieve academic success.
Through the Sonnentag Foundation, County Materials supports dozens of charitable organizations and causes in four key service areas: Hunger & Homelessness Support, Service Member & Veteran Support, Sexual Abuse and Domestic Assault Services, and Mentoring & Skills Building.
