County Materials hosted two Highway Technician Certification Program PCCTEC-II classes at the company’s Quality Control Laboratory in Marathon, WI. The four-day course is designed to certify concrete professionals on proper mix-designs and testing practices to ensure quality construction techniques in all types of projects. The courses included three days of in-class learning and a full-day of hands-on work at County Materials on January 16th, and February 27th. Both classes included 20 participants who were split into four stations throughout the day doing trial batching, aggregate testing, aggregate correction factor, and super air meter/box testing.

“County Materials provided us with space where we could have the necessary equipment, a climate-controlled environment, and where we could make noise. This is work that can’t be done in a hotel conference room where the rest of the classes take place,” said Howard ‘Buck’ Barker, P.E., Prime Instructor of the level II class. “County Materials puts forward the effort not just to sell products, but to support industry education.”

County Materials’ testing laboratory is an industry leading-facility that has achieved accreditation and certification by several agencies including, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) AMRL Proficiency Testing, and the Cement and Concrete Reference Laboratory (CCRL). County Materials’ testing laboratory specializes in comprehensive sampling, testing and failure analysis for aggregates, concrete, and related construction materials utilizing a variety of testing methods as necessary and provides prompt recommendations. The company’s participation in this industry event is another example of how County Materials demonstrates its vision of Success, Support and Stability.
