In support of National Concrete Pipe Week, County Materials hosted 14 engineers for a plant tour on August 23rd, 2018, at the company’s Astatula, FL, pipe manufacturing facility. Engineers from local government agencies and private firms gained valuable knowledge on how concrete pipe is a sustainable and long-lasting choice for the health, safety and well-being of their communities.
“Concrete Pipe Week provides us the opportunity to meet with local industry professionals and government officials to recognize how concrete pipe benefits the health and well-being of Florida residents,” said Angel De Jesus, PE Technical Resource Engineer at County Materials. “Giving a first-hand demonstration on how concrete pipe is made and the rigorous strength testing it undergoes provides a full picture of why concrete pipe is the product of choice for many engineers.”
During the tour, County Materials demonstrated the company’s state-of-the-art manufacturing process and walked through quality control and testing methods. Concrete pipe testing measures pipe strength by simulating heavy loads. Members of County Materials’ quality control team educated attendees on how a pipe’s maximum load-carrying capacity is determined through load testing.
“Hosting tours is a good opportunity to connect those at the head of construction projects with the manufacturers,” said De Jesus. “Concrete Pipe Week allows us to build new relationships year after year.”
