County Materials proudly supported the 2021 Annual SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500 Wisconsin Regional Competition, held in Fond du Lac, WI. This event invites community members and local high school students to learn about the masonry industry. Volunteers from the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local #8 taught students how to use a trowel and assisted them in laying five small foundation walls.
The winner of each regional event will attend the SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500 in Las Vegas, NV. This is a world-renowned bricklaying competition that started in 2003 at the World of Concrete tradeshow. The competition highlights the masonry trade as one of the most respected professions. Two-person teams made of a mason and mason tender compete to lay the most bricks while meeting strict quality standards. Each team has one hour to build a 26-foot-long double wythe brick wall, while being evaluated by 30 judges.
