On October 2nd, 2019 nearly 4,000 middle school students across North Central Wisconsin descended on local manufacturing facilities for a day of learning and career exploration as part of the 8th Annual Heavy Metal Tour. County Materials Corporation welcomed 8th graders from four schools including John Muir Middle School in Wausau, Wis; Spencer Middle School in Spencer, Wis.; and P.J. Jacobs Junior High and Ben Franklin Junior High both in Stevens Point.

Students toured three of the company’s locations, including a concrete pipe manufacturing facility in Rib Falls, WI; a truck maintenance and fabrication shop in Marathon, WI; and an aggregate quarry, ready-mix plant and truck maintenance shop in Custer, WI. The Heavy Metal Tour is held every October to help celebrate Manufacturing Month.

During the tour, students learned about County Materials’ history as a concrete product manufacturer, production facilities, and discovered the many career opportunities available in the concrete manufacturing industry. County Materials is committed to career development and educating students about the manufacturing industry not only during Manufacturing Month, celebrated each October, but throughout the entire year.
