Enriching the Lives of Combat Veterans with Service Dogs

Written by Admin | Nov 12, 2024

County Materials partners with Custom Canines Service Dog Academy to enhance the lives of veterans throughout the Midwest. Custom Canines is a nonprofit organization in Madison, Wisconsin, that pairs service dogs with individuals who have disabilities. The dogs receive specialized training to assist with challenges, including military and civilian post-traumatic stress disorder, mobility issues, and visual impairments.

The canine partnerships offer stability and support, helping veterans manage and prevent post-traumatic stress episodes and anxiety attacks. The organization matches each dog to an owner based on capability, lifestyle, mobility, personality, and psychological needs, ensuring that the partnership enhances the owner’s quality of life.

For veterans with a dog, Custom Canines offers an Owner Training Academy, a three-month program designed to help veterans train their dogs to perform tasks that help them manage their disabilities.

Through the Sonnentag American Foundation, County Materials supports worthy organizations like Custom Canines. We provide support in four key service areas: Hunger & Homelessness Support, Service Member & Veteran Support, Sexual Abuse & Domestic Assault Services, and Mentoring & Skills Building.
