On October 22nd, students from Fond du Lac High School were welcomed by County Materials at the company’s Appleton, WI location for a tour of the company’s block manufacturing plant, yard, and showroom.

The students are part of the ACE Academy at Fond du Lac High School; ACE stands for Architecture, Construction, and Engineering. The ACE Academy is a statewide education program the integrates academia with technical education in construction related fields. High school graduates who earn a certificate from the ACE Career Academy are prepared to pursue a career in the construction industry. In addition to Fond du Lac High School, the following high schools have ACE Academy programs: Burlington High School, Kimberly High School, La Crosse High School, Marshfield High School, Racine Unified High School, and Tomah High School.

“Tours like this are an opportunity for County Materials to introduce trade careers to students as they are getting ready to make post high school education and career decisions,” said Jay Olson, Sales Representative for County Materials. “What was great about this tour is that the students already had experience installing masonry products; now they got to see the behind the scenes production of these products.”

For another Sales Representative at County Materials, this tour had special meaning. “I think it’s very important that County Materials continues to support schools like this throughout the state, because we want to let students know all the career options available to them,” said Soren Nelson. “I feel especially invested with this program because County Materials has donated materials to the program on several occasions for students to get hands-on masonry experience.”

Tours like this one, and donations made to industry and education groups demonstrate how County Materials fulfills its Vision of Success, Stability, and Support in the communities where it has locations.
