Heavy Metal Tour Gives Middle School Students the Chance to Explore Careers in Manufacturing

Written by Admin | Dec 2, 2022

Middle school students across Central Wisconsin once again got a chance to explore careers in manufacturing through the Heavy Metal Tour, which returned this fall.

As a national sponsor and local participant in the tour, County Materials hosted about 150 students from Central Wisconsin schools at its Marathon, Rib Falls, and Custer, Wisconsin, facilities. By helping to put on one of the largest technical education awareness tours in the United States, County Materials is changing the perception of manufacturing.

During tours of County Materials’ concrete pipe manufacturing facility, block plant, truck maintenance and metal fabrication shop, and ready-mix batch plant, students learned about the trades of tomorrow and the many technological innovations used to manufacture reliable concrete products. While touring the work environment, students could ask questions, discover opportunities in manufacturing, and envision themselves going to work in an exciting environment.

The manufacturing industry offers a rewarding career path with limitless opportunities for growth and no barriers to entry. High school graduates and individuals without experience can begin earning a living without investing money or years for further schooling. County Materials offers on-the-job training and development opportunities to help all team members realize their potential.

Together we’re building a company that hardworking people are proud to work for, live near, and do business with since 1946.
