Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana creates and supports one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. The organization recently hosted a Career Exploration and Networking Event to educate young people on the opportunities available to them after graduating high school. Mentor-student matches participated in career panels, a networking exercise, and a tour of the Ivy Tech campus.
One mentor for the organization said, “The [Big Brothers Big Sisters] Career Exploration Day provided my little brother the opportunity to interact with people within our community in successful and
rewarding careers. It inspired him and helped him better visualize his future.”
The career panels featured individuals from a wide variety of industries and education pathways to inspire students to explore their interests. One of County Materials’ Technical Resource Engineers was a panelist, informing the students about the concrete manufacturing industry, its many rewarding career opportunities, and how concrete products are used to build resilient communities.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is America’s largest donor-and-volunteer-supported mentoring network and strives to foster positive relationships that have a lasting effect on the lives of young people. County Materials is proud to partner with the organization and to support the work they do in the community.
Through the Sonnentag American Foundation, we support organizations and causes in four key service areas: Hunger & Homelessness Support, Service Members & Veterans Support, Sexual Abuse & Domestic Assault Services, and Mentoring & Skills Building.
