Slower winter construction months present the opportunity for several Lafayette County construction contractors to volunteer at Barneveld High School to teach students about the trades. Over the course of 23 weeks, juniors and seniors discover the ins and outs of construction, focusing on several key topics, such as: rough framing, electrical, plumbing, drywall, carpet installation, masonry, and heavy equipment. The program, known as Lafayette Construction Academy, is dedicated to teaching students about the skilled labor industry through an organic, hands-on approach. As students gear up to make significant career decisions in the coming years, Lafayette Construction Academy hopes to aid students in finding a path suited for them.
County Materials generously sponsored the Academy’s masonry unit with the donation of brick and mortar. As an industry leader, County Materials supports the education and development of the skilled labor workforce and individuals who are interested in pursuing related careers. The majority of students are introduced to industry careers through technical education courses; thus, County Materials acknowledges the value of supporting these high school programs, ensuring all students have the opportunity to explore any desired career path.
