County Materials partners with Compass for Kids, Inc. to improve the lives of underserved children in Springfield, Illinois. Through after-school and summer programs, the organization provides services for students in the local school district that positively impact their lives and the greater community.
Compass for Kids was founded in 2011 to remove barriers that stand in the way of homeless children participating in community programs, such as cost, challenging paperwork processes, and transportation. Staying true to the purpose of allowing all children in the community to experience success and reach their full potential, Compass for Kids’ services also include arranging academic and social-emotional support.
One Compass for Kids program is Camp Compass, a summer learning program for underserved elementary students in Springfield public schools. The program is of no cost to the children who participate or their families. The camp prevents summer learning loss to reduce the achievement gap between low-income and higher-income students. Camp Compass blends academic activities with enrichment experiences to provide campers with opportunities they otherwise may not have access to.
Through the Sonnentag American Foundation, County Materials supports dozens of worthy organizations and causes in four key service areas, including Hunger & Homelessness Support, Service Member & Veteran Support, Sexual Abuse & Domestic Assault Services, and Mentoring & Skills Building.
