Partnering with Compass for Kids to Help Children Thrive

Written by Admin | Apr 6, 2023

County Materials partners with Compass for Kids in Springfield, IL, to empower underserved elementary students with innovative programs designed to improve academics and cultivate the life skills children need to thrive. Their vision is to help all children in the community experience success and reach their full potential.

Compass for Kids operates three distinct programs for children in Springfield Public Schools. Club Compass is a free community-based, after-school program that includes hands-on projects, a meal, reading support, and taking home a non-perishable food item for the weekend. Camp Compass prevents summer learning loss and improves reading and math skills. Its purpose is to reduce the achievement and opportunity gaps between low-income students and their higher-income peers. Camp Care-A-Lot is a five-day, four-night residential camp additionally offered for children to help them achieve their future goals and live healthier and safer lives. Campers leave believing they can be successful no matter their upbringing.

County Materials, through the Sonnentag American Foundation, targets support to worthy organizations like Compass for Kids. We partner with organizations that support individuals in four key service areas: Hunger & Homelessness Support, Service Members & Veterans Support, Sexual Abuse & Domestic Assault Services, and Mentoring & Skills Building.
