Catholic School Achieves Classical Aesthetic with High-Performance Masonry Products

Aug 8, 2023

The expansion of Aquinas Academy, a Catholic school in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, included the addition of a full-size gymnasium, larger classrooms, art and music rooms, and a beautiful oratory for prayer and reflection. To match the refined classical aesthetic of the existing school, project leaders specified a variety of masonry products manufactured and supplied by County Materials.

The building’s facade features wainscoting made from County Materials’ Splitface Block in Bisque, topped by Belden’s Cherry Velour Brick, supplied by County Materials. Sturdy columns clad with the same Splitface units as the wainscoting support an entrance vestibule with a towering archway that welcomes visitors and fosters a sense of grandeur and sophistication.

Concrete masonry and clay brick are both high-performing construction materials known for their durability and low maintenance requirements. Clay brick is naturally fireproof and has proven to be a preferred material to other cladding options during high wind events such as hurricanes or tornadoes. The randomly textured face and rugged pattern of the Splitface Block emulates chiseled stone, adding visual interest while providing all the advantages of concrete masonry.

The project also incorporated 1,200 SF of Premier Ultra® Burnished Masonry Units in Quiet Beach and Solstice for interior applications. In total, County Materials manufactured and supplied almost 6,000 SF of masonry products for this project, providing timely delivery to keep the project on schedule.
