Self-Consolidating concrete (SCC) is a high-performance concrete that can flow easily into tight and constricted spaces without segregating and without requiring vibration. The key to creating self-consolidating concrete (SCC), also referred to as self-compacting, self-leveling, or self-placing concrete, is a mixture that is fluid, but also, stable, to prevent segregation. The required level of fluidity depends on considerations of the particular application, such as element shape, desired surface finish, and travel distance.
Product Features
- Made with a new generation of superplasticizers based on polycarboxylate ethers
- Improved water reduction and slower slump loss than traditional superplasticizers
- SCC requires little to no use of mechanical vibrators to reduce entrapped air in the concrete during placement. It thus requires a smaller crew size, which leads to considerable savings in production costs.
- Aesthetically pleasing finished surface with fewer air bubbles
Applications
Due to SCC’s high flowability and ability to fill constricted spaces, it is often specified for applications where reinforcement is highly congested or in areas of complex formwork, such as:
- Drilled shafts
- Columns
- Retaining walls, dams, and barriers
- Retrofitting and repairing constructions
