Concrete masonry projects earn statewide honors

MADISON - County Materials was recognized as the manufacturer of architectural concrete masonry units for all seven of the award-winning projects honored in the 2010 Wisconsin Concrete Masonry Association's Excellence in Masonry Awards program held in April.

The Best of Show award was presented to the West Allis Animal Hospital, West Allis. (Architect/General contractor for the project was Chris Greene, Inc.; Mason contractor was Craft Masonry.) A diverse mix of Heritage CollectionTM Designer Concrete Brick, colored concrete masonry units and clay brick all from County Materials create a welcoming presence for the animal care facility, which is sited in an aged area of the city's downtown district.

The first of two Excellence awards went to All Saints Catholic Church, Berlin. (Architect for the project was Birschbach & Associates; General/Mason contractor was Miron Construction.) The All Saints Catholic Church is a $4.6 million project that serves 900 families in the surrounding Berlin area. Neutral colored concrete masonry units from County Materials were utilized for both interior and exterior applications, creating a lasting building envelope with timeless beauty.

A second Excellence award was presented to the Six Points East Condominiums, West Allis (Architects were Landscape Architects and Keller, Inc.; General Contractor was Monument Construction; Mason contractor was Double Barrel Masonry.) Surrounded by neighborhoods and streetscapes, the four-story Six Points East Condominiums house a parking level, retail office and restaurant space, as well as condos and penthouses. Highly durable and attractive Heritage CollectionTM Designer Concrete Brick, tumbled Old World County Stone® masonry and colored split face masonry units from County Materials offer unique character and an excellent canvas for the multi-use complex.

The following four projects also received Finalist honors:
Black Diamond, Oak Creek (Architect was TDI Architects; General contractor was Venture Development; Mason contractor was Marriott Construction.)
Riley Construction, Oshkosh (Architect was Partners In Design; General/Mason contractor was Riley Construction.)
Copp's Grocery - East Side, Sun Prairie (Architect was Schroeder & Holt Architects; General contractor was Kraus-Anderson; Mason contractor was Corner Stone Construction.)
Goodwill Industries of SE Wisconsin, Wauwatosa (Architect was Kubala Washatko Architects; General contractor was Venture Development; Mason contractor was Edgar Prager & Sons.)
