In recognition of National Concrete Pipe Week, County Materials’ Madison, WI concrete pipe production facility hosted Senator Mark Miller of Wisconsin’s 16thDistrict on August 20th. The tour highlighted plant safety, the manufacturing processes for concrete pipe, and the role concrete pipe plays in building urban communities throughout Wisconsin.
Part of the tour included a demonstration of a three-edge bearing test machine. ASTM standards for reinforced concrete pipe require a factory test to verify strength and consolidation before delivery. This test demonstrates concrete pipe’s structural abilities to withstand heavy loads and remain a reliable storm water conduit during heavy rains and high traffic events.
Another advantage of concrete pipe is that it’s sustainable—a growing concern for urban and rural communities alike. Reinforced concrete pipe is produced with benign, natural materials and is suitable for LEED projects and sustainable development standards (FAQ, Design American Concrete Pipe Association).
National Concrete Pipe week was created to recognize the vital role reinforced concrete pipe plays in communities across the nation. Storm water management systems built with reinforced concrete pipe are an integral part of community infrastructure. County Materials supported National Concrete Pipe week by sharing industry appreciation with customers and industry partners, as well as hosting plant tours across the company’s many locations for elected officials and industry professionals.
