Founded over 130 years ago, the Milwaukee Zoo has long been a beloved destination for not only Milwaukee residents but also visitors from across Wisconsin. In 1892, it featured a modest display of miniature mammals and birds, which quickly became a popular attraction. By the turn of the century, the zoo had grown to house more than 800 animals on 23 acres of land. Today, the Milwaukee Zoo is a 190 acre home to more than 2,200 animals and over 340 species.
Recently, the zoo’s elephant enclosure underwent an upgrade with the addition of a concrete feeding station designed to let the elephants root around for food in a setting that mimics their natural habitat. This enhancement supports the elephants' overall well-being by providing enrichment, encouraging natural behaviors, and helping to reduce stress.
County Materials contributed by donating the reinforced concrete pipe needed to enhance the elephant exhibit.
Through the Sonnentag American Foundation, County Materials supports dozens of worthy organizations. We provide support in four key service areas: Hunger & Homelessness Support, Service Member & Veteran Support, Sexual Abuse & Domestic Assault Services, and Mentoring & Skills Building.
