County Materials Hosts Congressman Rodney Davis (IL-13) for Concrete Pipe Plant Tour in Springfield, IL
County Materials hosted Congressman Rodney Davis (IL-13) at the company’s Springfield concrete pipe manufacturing facility on April 11th. Rep. Davis toured the facility, learning why concrete pipe a vital component of long-lasting storm water management systems. He also spoke with County Materials’ Technical Resource Engineer Steve Smart, about legislation to invest in the nation’s infrastructure.
During the tour Smart thanked Rep. Davis for voting in favor of the bipartisan 2018 Disaster Recovery Reform Act which ensures tax payer money spent on emergency evacuation routes provides a fast, efficient, and resilient means of escaping and returning home in the aftermath of a disaster. Smart also spoke out against legislation that that would impose “open competition” requirements on government agencies when determining which materials would be suitable for infrastructure needs. Under current law, trained and licensed engineers are responsible for the task of writing engineering specifications for construction products used in infrastructure projects. Concrete pipe is the preferred material for storm water management because of its proven long lifespan and resiliency.
“Tours like these are important for introducing our leaders to the concrete pipe industry,” said Steve Smart, “This tour not only demonstrated to Representative Davis that concrete pipe has a huge impact on local and national infrastructure, it allowed him to see the impact it has on the economy in his district.”
County Materials is an industry leader in concrete pipe education. This tour is one example of how County Materials demonstrates its Vision of Success, Stability and Support.
