County Materials’ Masonry Donation Opens Doors for Education, Careers, and a New Home
A donation of masonry materials from County Materials was used by crews from Operation Fresh Start to complete a home they have been working on for nearly a year. Students from Operation Fresh Start met with masons who trained them how to build a retaining wall and install brick on the front of the house. The home will be sold at market price with proceeds invested back into Operation Fresh Start.
Operation Fresh Start empowers young adults, ages 16 to 24, toward a path of self-sufficiency. Graduates of the program earn their high school diploma, driver’s license, and construction and conservancy certifications, and gain college and career readiness skills. Last year, 76 percent of Operation Fresh Start participants were young adults of color and 80 percent were from low-income households. Fresh Start students give back to the community by building affordable homes for deserving families and completing conservation work in local parks.
Through the Sonnentag Foundation, County Materials supports dozens of charitable organizations in four key service areas: Hunger & Homelessness Support, Service Member & Veteran Support, Sexual Abuse & Domestic Assault Services, and Mentoring & Skills Building.
