County Materials Promotes the Masonry Trade with Kimberly High School Students
Two classes from Kimberly High School learned valuable lessons about the masonry trade by constructing a park shelter with the support of material donations made by County Materials Corporation. Students worked with a local mason to build the shelter at Sunset Park in Kimberly, WI. County Materials donated more than 800 Fullface Split masonry units for the shelter’s construction.
Project construction began in September 2018 with demolition of an existing shelter and site preparation. The shelter was finished in mid-January. Students worked for 2-3 hours each morning during class time, rain, snow or shine. The previous shelter was a popular community asset for more than 60 years due to its scenic location, however, it was in need of replacement. This new facility has upgraded electrical capacity and a kitchen space for community members to host events.
“The partnership between the Village of Kimberly, the Kimberly Recreation Association and County Materials helped make this project possible,” said Holly Femal, Community Enrichment Director for the Village of Kimberly. “Overall, this experience has provided a valuable learning experience for area students and it gave the community an iconic shelter overlooking the Fox River.”
Promoting the masonry trade and building communities is another example of how County Materials demonstrates it Vision of Success, Support and Stability.
