Governor Walker Tours County Materials' Manufacturing Facility in Janesville, Wis.
Governor Scott Walker made a scheduled visit to County Materials Corporation in Janesville, Wis., on Friday, August 22, 2014, to tour the company’s newest manufacturing facility.
During his stop, Governor Walker met with management personnel from County Materials and observed the company’s paver and block manufacturing equipment, product processing technologies, and bridge girder production lines. In addition to answering several media inquiries, he also shared remarks and had photos taken with employees.
County Materials started operations in Janesville, their newest production facility, in early 2013. The facility represents a major investment and undertaking for the company; the paver and block plant and processing building employ state of-the-art manufacturing technologies to produce products with superior quality and high-end, sought after aesthetics. The company also recently completed construction on the prestress lines, allowing them to produce bridge girders in a climate-controlled environment year round.
The first bridge girders to be produced by County Materials’ Janesville prestress plant were installed on the Greenfield Avenue Bridge (Bridge No. B-40-769), part of the Milwaukee Zoo Interchange Reconstruction project completed in West Allis, Wis. County Materials produced 32 massive 45W prestress girders for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation project, of which 16 measured 107 feet and 16 measured 94 feet in length. County Materials coordinated hauling eight girders to the site each night for four nights with specially approved escorts by Milwaukee County Sherriff personnel on Highway 894.
