Putting Military Leadership Skills to Use as a Project Manager: Jesse’s Story

Aug 11, 2025

Jesse Boyd is a project manager with the County Materials Family of Companies in Rib Falls, Wisconsin. Jesse served six years in the U.S. Army Reserves before launching his career in concrete manufacturing.

Jesse achieved the rank of Platoon Sergeant before retiring from the military. In that role, he was responsible for ensuring his team of 30 soldiers were mission-ready. The experience built his confidence in his leadership skills, which he now applies daily in the County Materials organization.

“As a project manager, I work with County Materials' production and scheduling teams, meeting contractors’ deadlines, dealing with many personalities, multitasking, and using critical thinking to name a few.”

A career in concrete manufacturing requires adaptability and tenacity, just like a military career. The County Materials Family of Companies actively recruits veterans and service members because they bring a strong work ethic, attention to detail, commitment to teamwork, and leadership skills that drive our company’s performance.

We are committed to helping veterans transition smoothly from a military career to a fulfilling civilian career. We provide on-the-job training and require no additional credentialing or education for many positions with great growth potential. Our culture emphasizes leadership development and we equip our leaders with the skills needed to excel. We also have a Gold Business Membership in the Wisconsin Veterans Chamber of Commerce (WVCC) and proudly support the chamber’s advocacy efforts on behalf of Wisconsin veterans.
