County Materials Celebrates Career and Technical Education

Feb 22, 2018

Career and technology education is a year-round initiative at County Materials Corporation. As the demand for skilled labor continues to grow, County Materials is dedicated to closing the gap by hosting facility tours and making strategic donations that support education in the trades. County Materials is an industry leader by offering learning opportunities to students who are interested in competitive wages and high-demand careers in the manufacturing and construction industries.

Public awareness about the skilled labor gap continues to grow, which is why the Association for Career and Technical Education has named February Career and Technical Education Month to celebrate the value of exploring many career opportunities available for high school students after they graduate. For several years, students turned away from manufacturing and construction careers because of the perception that they were low-skill, low-paying jobs. However, Career and Technical Education Month is dedicated to flipping this narrative by connecting students to business and industry leaders, so they can see the benefits of the industry first-hand and decide what career is best for them.

County Materials frequently hosts tours at production facilities for students in technology classes. Many times, these opportunities are the first-time students see and learn about manufacturing career opportunities. Students leave these tours with a broader understanding and appreciation about valuable job opportunities available to them.

County Materials is an active contributor to high school and technical college trades courses, industry associations, and even fire and rescue departments who use concrete materials for training purposes. County Materials also regularly hosts continuing education and learning seminars for construction professionals, leads plant tours for local legislators, and promotes certifications for mason and landscape contractors. The company maintains active memberships with numerous professional and community associations for the advancement of our industry.
