Recognized during the week of August 19-25, the 2018 Concrete Pipe Week gave County Materials the opportunity to raise awareness on the crucial function of concrete pipe in keeping communities healthy, safe, and thriving. Governors in Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia, along with Lake County, Florida all signed proclamations declaring the importance of concrete pipe in their own states and communities.
County Materials took the lead during Concrete Pipe Week by hosting several plant tours at our production facilities for government and department of transportation officials, as well as private practicing engineers and students. County Materials hosted US Representative Cheri Bustos for a plant tour at our Springfield, IL location. Indiana Department of Transportation official learned about concrete pipe during a tour at our Maxwell, IN plant. Florida engineers saw firsthand the rigorous testing process concrete pipe endures at our Astatula, FL facility. In addition, County Materials’ Iowa City, IA location hosted five separate tours for industry professionals and local students.
The concrete pipe industry has a large impact on the U.S. economy. Concrete pipe is a durable product that is used to build storm water utilities and the infrastructure for growing communities, and it contributes to thousands of jobs. County Materials alone employs more than 1,500 individuals at nearly 40 locations in six states. Although typically it is unseen after installation, concrete pipe is relied on every day as an essential component for water management systems in the communities where Americans live, work and play.
