Empowering Communities to Combat Human Trafficking Through Education and Training

Aug 13, 2025

Human trafficking is a growing issue worldwide, targeting people who are vulnerable due to violence, abuse, poverty, and homelessness. Through education and specialized training, the Gateway Alliance Against Human Trafficking (GAHT) empowers communities to identify and report human trafficking.

Recently, the County Materials Family of Companies awarded a grant for the Breaking the Chains of Human Trafficking (BCHT) program, an initiative to improve the identification and reporting of human trafficking cases to the National Human Trafficking Hotline. Responding to trafficking situations requires vigilance and knowledge, which is why GAHT emphasizes training for both adults who work with children and adolescents to spot the warning signs of trafficking.

GAHT trained more than 400 professional service providers, community members, and students to recognize and respond to human trafficking situations. Additionally, the program reached over 500 people to raise awareness of human trafficking.

One attendee shared, “Gateway Alliance Against Human Trafficking provided a very informative, impactful, and engaging training to our staff about the realities of human trafficking. The work they do is incredibly important!”
